Overview

Fidelity Investments gave me the opportunity to work with their team, BELONG, as an Inclusive User Experience Design Researcher. I focused on developing an inclusive concept for their mobile Cash Management. I worked as the only intern but I've reached out to many others within the Fidelity to acquire feedback and sought mentorship.

I was tasked with a project with the idea of researching how Fidelity Investments could use Inclusive design onto their money-management page. I went out to interview others, build and design a prototype for testing. I then presented my findings and learnings from this project on the day of Fidelity's opening ceremony of BELONG initiative.

Brief to Connections

Evidence-based mobile application focused on reinforcing coping and recovery tools. While also assisting individuals with their treatment plan to remain consistent in recovery. Through different methods such as harnessing a supportive community, sobriety tracking, digital surveys, and on-call professional recovery specialists.

Knowledge Development

To learn more about the process of making these features. I’ve set-up meetings with the engagement team to gather information and further understand what are needs and scope of change they’re looking at.

I wanted to understand these situations from the interviews:
- What are the methods and the process for engagement in communities?
- What is their method of recording of engagement?
- What are some examples of successful, average and not successful engagement?

Here is what they said:

Community users do find
enjoyment from the surveys

Patients find its a way to interact with each other and different form of being supported.

Surveys and Questions is their
method of getting engagement

Surveys aren’t a feature on the application. Thus the team upload these questions in the comments under a post.

Used Excel to keep track of who’s
actively using the community

They would talk with users in the comments and then story the conversation on Excel.

Research and Understanding

After setting up the meeting with the teams.

Finalizing the goals for this project

Deliver a better solution the Engagement team to spend less time commenting and organizing the structure of the survey. When it can be made quickly on the CHESS Dashboard.

Efficient for the engagement
team to use.

Users would be able to track down and visually see the flow of their money.

Matching the demographic

People are are older, and some going through withdrawls. Also being not a crazy new concept.

Easy for development to compute

Project had a tight deadline for the development team. Thus the project had to be relatively simple and overly unique.

Comparison from old to new

I wanted to create an inclusive concept that will advocate excluded individuals to start investing with small amounts of money. These smaller actions of investments will likely get these individuals comfortable and understand how to approach investments. In addition, the concept will also include traditional fin-tech graphs to allow the individuals to see their money flow.

Similar appearance but with polls

Option to view who voted and interacted with the post in some way

Users will be able to compare and view their spending habits throughout the month. The user will be able to select a button that will allow them to start investing

Added emojis to allow more interactive options

Individuals will have the opportunity to select a button to locate them to a page that will automate the process of distributing their deposit of money into three categories of needs, wants and savings.

What I learned

A lot of the challenges I have faced working on these projects are due to being a solo design for this team. There would be things I’d change to better suit the projects better.

The designs are for them

Often times, I found myself pulling hairs to make a more clean design for the sake of nicer designs. However, the stakeholders would wind up wanting the less attractive designs without further discussion.

Communicative Deliverables

Overtime, I had developed a system that better communicates with the dev team. Then also, how to inquire feedback that was workable.

Smaller Meetings Overtime

Its better to have small check-point meetings to gain feedback earlier.
